The Application Process

Question: How do I apply for a position?
Answer: Once you have found a job you are interested in, click on the APPLY ONLINE button which appears at the bottom of the page to submit an application immediately. If you prefer, you may contact the Talent Management Department in the location you are interested in to complete an application.


Question: How do I submit a resume?
Answer: When you find a position you are interested in and believe you are qualified for, simply click on the APPLY ONLINE button which appears on the bottom of the job description page. This will allow you to submit information about yourself, attach a resume and write a short cover letter.


Question: I sent in my resume a couple of days ago by mail. How long will it take before I can schedule an interview?
Answer: You will receive an acknowledgment that your resume has been received. If there is an open position that matches your qualifications, we will contact you to schedule interviews.


Question: What happens after I send in my resume?
Answer: All candidates will receive a general acknowledgement that their resume has been received. If you have applied online this will be automatic. If you have mailed your application in this will take a bit longer. Selected candidates who best match the requirements of the position will be contacted to schedule a first-round interview, which will take place in person or over the phone.


Question: How long will the application process take?
Answer: Applying on line may take 10 to 15 minutes once you have found a suitable job. You will not be able to save your data so please plan to leave enough time to complete your application at one seating.


Question: What if I start but do not finish my application on line?
Answer: If you are unable to complete your online application you will need to reenter your information. Your application is complete only when you have entered your data, clicked on SUBMIT and receive verification that your data has been submitted and received.


Question: If my details change will I need to update?
Answer: Yes, we would like to receive your updated resume and your current contact information.


Question: When will I hear back?
Answer: Only those individuals who best match the requirements of the position will be contacted by the Talent Management department in the location to which they have applied. All other applications will be kept for future opportunities.


Question: I worked for DFS before; can I apply for another job?
Answer: If you have worked with DFS before, you may apply for another job. Submit information on when and where you worked for DFS in the online application.


Question: What is the interview process like?
Answer: Once we determine a match with an open position, you'll be contacted to first meet with a Talent Recruitment specialist. In addition, certain positions may also require skill testing, drug screen and/or background check prior to employment. After the initial meeting, which may occur over the phone, we'll let you know if there is a potential match and set up interview meetings. This may require more than one visit to our offices, but our goal is to make this process as convenient and informative for you as possible. Of course, references will be checked before any offer of employment is extended.


Question: I went to a career fair and met with recruiters, but nobody called me back.
Why is this?
Answer: If a currently available position matches your qualifications, we'll call you to schedule interviews with the hiring team. In addition, your resume will be entered into our database for our recruiters to access for future opportunities.


Searching for a Suitable Position

Question: What if I cannot find a job I am interested in?
Answer: You may apply for a position even if there is no specific job listed that you are interested in. To do this click on the APPLY HERE text on the Job Opportunities page. You will be able to submit information about your interests in terms of field, location and background. You will be asked to complete a series of questions and will be able to attach a resume and write a short cover letter if you desire.


Question: Can I refer a friend for a position that matches their skills and interests?
Answer: Yes. If you find a job that a friend would be interested in, click EMAIL THIS JOB button at the bottom of the page that describes the position. You will be asked for your email and the email of your friend. Once submitted your friend will receive an e-mail notification with a link to the position posting. The job details can be viewed and an application completed online.


Question: Is there opportunity for career advancement between divisions? Does DFS promote from within?
Answer: Absolutely. DFS is a firm believer in talent mobility and because we are a global retailer, encourage talented team members to apply for positions in other divisions and locations. This includes supporting opportunities within and between our headquarters, stores, merchandising, and IT/Finance departments. In fact, we work to promote internal opportunities to DFS employees before extending an offer to any external candidate.


Question: Can I apply for a position outside of the country from which I am based?
Answer: Yes. You will simply need to provide the necessary documentation that proves you can legally work in the country you desire.


College Recruiting

Question: Do you recruit on college campuses?

Question: What positions do you recruit for?
Answer: We recruit for Management Trainee and Intern positions during our college campus visits.


Question: How do I apply for one of those positions?
Answer: Refer to the online posting for Management Trainee and Interns. You may apply online or during the campus visits. If you would like to apply for a position now, please refer back to the job posting and apply online for that specific posted job.


Question: What should I do if DFS will not be visiting my campus?

Question: My major is not related to the retail or business industry, can I still apply for the Management Trainee position?

Question: If I am graduating in six months, can I apply for the Management Trainee positions now?
Answer: Yes, you may choose to send in your resume anytime and we will review your application as soon as received.
