Rebecca Weitzman Assistant Merchandise Manager for European Lifestyle/Men’s Leather | “I first joined DFS as a summer intern while attending university. The internship was far from anything the general retail industry had to offer. Instead of performing administrative tasks, I was asked to work directly with senior management, help analyze my team’s business, and develop and drive department initiatives. The level of responsibility given to me as an intern, accompanied by my passion for the industry and respect for luxury product, fostered my desire to continue my career at DFS. Upon graduating from university, I returned to DFS as a Management Trainee (MT). As an MT I was offered a unique approach to learning the business. The program enhanced my management skills thru three different rotations: four months in Global Planning with the Fashion team in San Francisco, four months in Hong Kong with the Division Operations for the Luxury team, and four months with Global Merchandising with the Beauty team, again in San Francisco. The MT program not only fully satisfied my ambition but gave me a holistic view of the company and of how DFS maintains its position as the leading luxury retailer. At the completion of the program I joined the Fashion Global Merchandising team as the Assistant Merchandise Manager for European Lifestyle/Men’s Leather, where everyday I apply skill sets I learned from my exposures to the different sectors of the business. My experience with joining DFS as a university intern, participating in the Management Trainee program, and then becoming an Assistant Merchandise Manager has truly proven that with passion, ambition, and the ability to continue to learn, the opportunities to grow my career are endless . ” |
